Protecting Yourself from Fraud 

Wherever a market exists, deceptive or fraudulent activity can also be present. The same is true for the timeshare resale market. Unfortunately, there are resale companies that use fraudulent gimmicks or perform illegitimate actions in an attempt to deceive timeshare owners for their own financial gain. 

Although several state governments are actively investigating consumer complaints and pursuing just course of action against such companies, ARDA and ARDA-ROC recommend that consumers always take precautions with their timeshare interests. We want to help you be a vigilant consumer, not a victim.   

6 Red Flags of a Resale Scam 

Know the signs and when to be wary: 

Red Flag Icon  If you’re contacted unsolicited by a company regarding the sale of your timeshare or the elimination of maintenance fees;
Red Flag Icon  If an offer sounds too good to be true (it likely is);
Red Flag Icon  If you’re asked to pay an upfront fee for a future “service”;
Red Flag Icon  Promises to modify or cancel your timeshare contractual obligations; or
Red Flag Icon  Any call or mailing offering to transfer your paid-off ownership to another party;
Red Flag Icon  If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a representative of ARDA or ARDA-ROC (ARDA and ARDA-ROC DO NOT contact owners unless first requested by the owner to do so. ARDA and ARDA-ROC DO NOT perform any resale services.)
